Where Giving Birth is a Battle for Survival
Afghanistan faces some of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world. In remote, rural, and underserved communities, access to qualified healthcare is critically scarce. What should be a moment of profound joy—bringing new life into the world—becomes a terrifying crisis for thousands of mothers who are forced to give birth without professional medical support.
The tragedy is that these losses are entirely preventable. The primary obstacle is a severe shortage of qualified female healthcare workers in hard-to-reach regions.
To break this devastating cycle, we don’t just need outside aid; we need to empower local heroes from within.
From 900 Applicants to 80 Future Life-Savers
The desire to heal and protect is overwhelming. When Afghan Relief launched the Midwifery Scholarship Program, we received 900 applications from passionate young women across the country, all eager to serve their communities.
Following a strict, transparent, and merit-based review process, 120 applicants were shortlisted, and 80 exceptional students were selected to join the inaugural cohort.
Classes officially commenced on 6 June 2026. These women have proven their dedication by qualifying; now, they rely on our global community to sustain their journey.
How We Choose Our Students
To guarantee your charity reaches the most urgent areas, scholarships were strictly allocated based on vulnerability and regional need:
50% Economically Disadvantaged Applicants: Grade 12 graduates who possess the intellect but lack the financial means to pursue higher education.
20% Remote & Underserved Residents: Ensuring that upon graduation, these midwives return directly to build healthcare systems in forgotten rural terrain.
20% Orphan Applicants: Providing resilient young women with a path to dignified professional careers and financial independence.
10% Widowed Women: Transforming vulnerability into leadership, empowering single mothers to rebuild their lives while saving others.
