Severe flash flooding driven by sudden torrential rains has struck eastern Afghanistan, heavily impacting Parun, the provincial capital, alongside rural communities in Mandol District.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least 30 people have lost their lives, approximately 150 individuals are injured, and more than 100 people remain missing as communities search through the debris. The torrential waters have damaged or destroyed homes, shops, farmland, roads, and vital public infrastructure across the region.
The difficult mountainous terrain, coupled with damaged roadways, presents significant logistical challenges for search-and-rescue teams. Despite these obstacles, local responders and communities are actively working together to locate missing loved ones and assist those affected.
Afghan Relief is mobilizing on the ground to deliver rapid emergency supplies—including food, safe drinking water, medical aid, and emergency shelter—to families whose lives, livelihoods, and homes have been disrupted.
• More than 270 houses have been completely destroyed by the floodwaters.
• Approximately 1,350 to 1,500 families have been displaced from their homes.
• Countless families are currently living in extremely vulnerable conditions without proper protection or support.
