In Afghanistan, there are over two million orphaned children facing economic vulnerability, lack of skills training, and dim employment prospects. Given the widespread usage of mobile phones, there is a growing demand for affordable repair services. Price points: 6 months to a year program: Cost would be $30 per month could pay for vocational training for an orphan.

Through providing demand-driven technical skills combined with entrepreneurial training, this program aims to open up viable livelihoods avenues for orphans. The mobile repair focus leverages an existing market need, allowing graduates to directly apply their skills to generate earnings.

To equip orphaned youth in Afghanistan with technical and entrepreneurial skills in mobile phone repair and maintenance through vocational training, enabling them to earn livelihoods.

The project will establish vocational training centers to provide comprehensive training in:

Mobile Phone Repair:

Hands-on training covering all aspects of diagnosing faults, repairing hardware and software issues in basic to advanced mobile phone models using proper tools/equipment.

Computer Skills:

Basic courses in computing skills like operating systems, data management, typing, online research, etc., to complement the technical training.

Entrepreneurship:

Modules on entrepreneurship cover business planning, budgeting, marketing, customer service, and other areas to enable self-employment.

Life Skills:

Additional sessions focused on work readiness, job search skills, financial literacy, rights, and personal development.

The program will feature:

  • Fully equipped mobile repair labs with the latest tools and training phones
  • Qualifications certified by mobile companies and/or accredited institutions
  • Internships/apprenticeships with established mobile repair vendors
  • Job placement support and facilitating market linkages
  • Access to micro-finance, tool kits, and rent-free kiosk spaces
  • Peer learning, mentorship, and counseling components
